FAQs
What is the purpose of the town hall?
This town hall forum will focus on concerted efforts to support and center women and girls of color, particularly those affected by mass incarceration and those who have fallen victim to over-policing in schools, ultimately influencing their pathways to college and attainment of a college degree.
Why does the town hall focus on incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women of color?
We are focusing on incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women of color and the challenges and opportunities associated with college attainment. We have been exploring specific issues facing women and girls of color in Tampa. Thus far, our exploration reveals that the challenges they face in Tampa Bay are similar to issues nationwide including over-suspension, over-policing, oversexualization, all of which are highly pervasive. Additionally, much of the discourse around these populations centers men and boys of color with limited to no attention to women and girls.
